"mornings on 2" begins right now. well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, november 12th. an east bay woman is making -- made a shocking discovery on 10th street in union city. janine de la vega is live on the scene with more. >> reporter: good morning, tori. that's because a man was found in a trash can. family and friends are grieving him this morning. they are too shaken up to speak on camera. but they've set up candles here to honor his memory. police were called here on 10th street after a woman taking out her trash found an

unconsciousman inside. they recognize him t was their family friend who stayed on and off at -- him t was their family friend who stay -- him. it was their family friend who stayed with him from time to time. they say at the hospital, it was determined there was alcohol in his system and they also say he did suffer from medical issues and had an ulcer. police say he didn't have any injuries on his body but they are investigating. again, back out here live, the body was found in a trash can like the one you are looking at. but the woman says that a second crash can that did not belong to her had perez inside and was put here. so that leads them to believe that he may have been brought here in that condition. we've put in calls to the police department and we're hoping to get more information on the case. we know that an autopsy has not

been done on his body. we're hoping to update this as the morning goes on. we're following developments in the grocery strike of rayly's and nob hill's. alex savidge is live with more to tell us what is going on. >> reporter: workers believe this has been an effective strike and that's why management decided to resume talks that will happen later on this morning. you can see a handful ofof this street. and then you can see some folks over there in front of the entrance to the store. everyone feeling hopeful about getting the deal done. management and the union representing 7500 grocery storkers. door negotiations resumed yesterday a week after workers walked off the job. these are rayly's nob hill and bel air.

both sides have agreed not to discuss the ongoing negotiations. these renewed talks can bring in a new contract. that's what motivated management to get back to the bargaining table. i absolutely do. we have so much community support. people bring us food every day. there is a woman who picks up her sign -- pick up signs and have been supportive. >> reporter: i left a message a short time ago for the raley's supermarket spokesperson. the union is encouraging them 20 remain on the picket line. you can imagine that a lot of folks here want to get a --

want to get a good job done here. back to you. about a dozen workers are on picket lines in sacramento outside of a hostess plant. the picketing started yesterday with a proposal of cutting salaries 8% and layoff warnings. new this morning, east coast areas still recovering from super storm sandy have another issue to deal with. new york residents say curious gawkers have been cruising streets and cars. some of the onlookers are even taking pictures. it's not sitting well with residents. many are still having to clean up the damage. the head of the power company

that serves new york long island says he understands the frustration is about 75,000 homes and businesses are still without power. he says the storm was much worse than expected. it's unsafe to reconnect 55,000 homes and businesses. some angry taking to the streets to protest. 14,000 new jersey residents are without electricity. dianne feinstein says it hit her like a lightning bolt when cia director david petraeus suddenly resigned because of an extramarital area. coming up at 7:15, how the fbi found out about the anare and the questions being asked about the timing of the fbi's revelation. chevron's plans to fix the damaged refinery in richmond is not connected to have a major

impact on reducing pollution levels. a corroded pipe was the cause. the "chronicle" reports that chevron will be able to produce new points for ignition technology. chevron says it will improve filtering equipment. company executives say their repairs meet industry standards. some are calling for the best technology available. who do you think has the longest commute in california? california watch is reporting that designation goes to contra costa county. people who live in contra costa county spend an average of 32.8 minutes in their cars every day. in contra costa county, 17% of the people travel an hour or more to get to work. compared to humboldt, the average commute is about 17 minutes. around the state, fewer than

colder start, though, for many. we had a pretty cold system. a couple of degrees. yesterday was a cold day, even though this was -- was sunny. low to mid-60s today. san jose will be the warmest on this panel at 65. but a little warmer probably into wednesday. high pressure says i'm not that strong. i'm going to send everything to the north. upper 60s. maybe eke out a 70. ignore that. that's just needback from the sacramento radar a lot of 30s. plenty to go around. it could be colder in we didn't have a slight breeze. the more clouds, the more you

go -- you can see them stretching right there and there. a stronger system digs offshore for wednesday. eventually the system will make our way -- make its way toward us. a lot of lead time. partly sunny to the north. some higher clouds. temperatures starting off in the 30s and 40s. we'll end up with 60s, coast, bay, inland. it will be a fine line. temperatures very close all around. santa cruz probably the warmest at 67. not much change accept a little warmer into midweek. then we'll watch the next system work its way to the coast. again, i think the system might even come in late or even monday. tori and dave. 7:10. a desperate plea for a woman  from dash it for a woman who has a bone disease. her two wheelchair equipped

vehicles were stolen. they were stolen in front of her home last night. one of the cars is a 1999 gold van. the other car is a 2000 black honda crv. now, she thinks she left the car keys dangling from her honda. both vehicles have more than $28,000 in modifications just for her. if you have any information call menlo police. 7:11. vallejo police are investigating an armed robbery at a pool hall. police say two men went into the facility on solano avenue around 1:30 on saturday morning. they were armed with guns. no one was hurt. 7:11. they were turned away at the ballot box. why some people say yes, they registered to vote were not able to cast a ballot.

ally -- as well as family in humboldt county. now, we's -- we've put a call into the sergeant on the case. homeless women around here are being told to remain vigilant for their own safety. hopefully we'll be able to talk to some of them to let you know how they are feeling. in overnight news, a driver was arrested after his car plunged off an overpass and down onto a busy freeway in pinole. >> reporter: police believe this driver was driving under the influence. police arrested a 20-year-old driver from concord on suspicion of driving under the influence shortly after the accident happened. but police believe the accident happened here in pinole. pinole police it appears the driver was coming westbound,

had just exited the freeway, made a left-hand turn at this intersections then instead of straightening out, drifted into the concrete barrier. the car plunged onto the freeway below. it landed completely upside down in the right-hand signed of -- right-hand lane of interstate 80. the driver wars not injured. he had a 21-year-old passenger from condition cord -- concord who was not injured and declined to go to the hospital for treatment. parts of a 20-foot chunk of the barrier fell on the free when the car plowed through it. you can see where caltrans nailed a guardrail on the barrier to cover up the gap.

-- turned out. michael henrick is live in indianapolis in indianapolis where there was an explosion. what's the latest, michael. >> reporter: well, we're right on the edge of the neighborhood. it's an active crime scene. we're not able to get as close as we might normally get two days after an explosion like this. right now, it's snowing. for hours it rained. this will play a big role in this investigation. it's affecting the evidence that these investigators might otherwise be able to collect and they were working all day yesterday trying to figure out what happened. just to give you a little background. the explosion took place and rocked this neighborhood in the 11:00 hour saturday night. that's eastern time here in

indianapolis. 80 homes were affected. five completely destroyed. the home that actually exploded -- exploded was empty. the homeowners were out of town. the two people who died lived next door. a second grade teacher and an audio engineer in independent and list who lost their lives living next door to the house. now, this homeowner is being questioned. we were very specific. they said the person is not being delaned -- detained but they are being questioned. citizens energy determines that there were no gas leaks in their part of the operation from the street up to the house. what investigators believe happened is that a gas leak inside the house, so right now, they are working hard to determine whether this really was an accident or if there was intent in this sort of

it's the 15th year aaa has used their trucks to feed thousands in the bay area. late tonight construction work begins on the caltrain track in san mateo county. caltrain is elevating the tracks. they will also create a new elevated station to replace the street level station at sylvan avenue. ial train says no service will be interrupted. how are things moving on 880? >> they are getting better. we're still checking it here. it is better. traffic is a little more crowded than it would be now that the accident is cleared, though, i think we'll see steady improvement heading south. a lot of people obviously use 880 to get to the airport and the coliseum area. it's still better than it was.

trash can. janine de la vega live in union city. i know you have new details and you just talked to the police. >> we're actually still waiting for the commander here at union city police department to come out and get some new information. but they did tell me on the phone, there are suspicious circumstances surrounding this man's death. that's because the trash can the man was found in did not belong to the home where it was found. let's go to video taken this morning. police were called to a home on 10th street after a woman taking out her trash found a man unconscious inside. the family says what's more disturbing, they recognized him. it was their family friend who stayed at the home on and off. he was taken to the hospital off and on. joshua gonzalez perez is his -- is his name. the family says at the alcohol

it was determined there was alcohol in his system. he did have an ulcer as well as other symptoms. there's candles and a memorial growing to honor this man's memory. we're expecting to get more details when the police arrive. they are investigating leads but are asking if you know anything, they are asking that you give them a call. back to you. 8:02. meantime, a walnut creek man physicalling mor thor than a -- missing for more than a week has been found dead. michael steven mcnulty was found on saturday. his car was found in the redwood national forest. we'll have more details as they are available. two minutes after 8:00,

republicans want him to return to the u.s. and testify. 8:14. another insider attack in afghanistan and another member of the u.s.-led coalition in afghanistan has been killed. authorities say the gunman was wearing an afghan army uniform yesterday when he shot and killed a british soldier. at least 60 coalition service members have been killed so far this year in about 845 insider attacks. the attacks have raised questions about how effectively allied forces can train them to take over their own country in 2014. the department of defense is reporting that a 26-year-old soldier from southern california was killed by an explosion in afghanistan over the weekend. 26-year-old kenneth bennett -- kenneth bennett from glendora

rosa with more on the killing of a young woman. >> reporter: well, people are on edge here after someone they knew was killed. police say that michaele lay woolridge was brutally stabbed a couple of weeks ago. she was killed in an alley on third street where flowers now live. november 1st. now, investigators believe that wooledridge the, the mother of a 2-year-old boy, was most likely killed where she was found and the detective said she was stabbed several times with some sort of a blade-edge instrument. we found some pictures on myspace. she had been suffering from trauma and he say she came from san francisco to humboldt county at the start of october to reabout -- begin a program

remembered december 1st. a driver arrested of a his car plunged off an over -- after his car plunged over an overpass. allie rasmus has the details about what may have led up to the crash. >> reporter: pinole police this crash was caused by a drunk driver and they arrested a man from concord. now this, happened on the appian way bridge. while the exact circumstances are still under investigation, police believe it happened something like this. the driver was going westbound. he made it to that intersection and he tried to make a left turn but instead of straightening out, he drifted into that concrete barrier, you can see 0 -- you can see on the left of the screen. the car landed below and ended up in the right lane of 880. luckily no other cars were

affected. no one was seriously hurt. the driver was arrested. his 4-year-old passenger also from concord was not seriously injured and he declined to go to the hospital for treatment. this happened at midnight. for most of the overnight hours, caltrans crews worked to repair the barrier. parts of a 20-foot chunk of it fell on the freeway when it fell through it. and a pinole sergeant said it was very fortunate. no one else was affected by this. by 4:00 in the morn, the repair work was done. you can see where caltrans crews nailed a metal guardrail on the barrier to cover the gap. right now they have plastic barricades in front of the gap just for ped partnership -- freeway. the bridge is -- for -- for

taking out her trash found an unconscious man inside the bin. her family told me she reck deak dash recognized him. he's a family friend who says at the house off anded on. crews him to -- and on. emergency crews took him to the hospital where he kye -- where he died. he did have an ulcer and suffered from other medical issues. they are taking this incident very seriously because of its suspicious nature? we've received information that trash can didn't belong to the resident. so we're in the process of trying to track down where it came from. >> whether it's a plank of some sort or whether that perp was injured and placed in the can -- that person was injured and placed in the can. we don't know. we're treating it as a serious crime at this time. >> reporter: the man has been identified as 21-year-old joshua gonzalez-perez. he's described as being very

friendly and funny. we do know that he lives sometimes in union city. he has prior addresses in hayward. he grew up in the lodi area. we just some more family members out here but they were -- they were too shaken up to speak to -- to speak to me. neighbors have been coming up and dropping off flowers. everybody is just disturbed over what happened here. police at this moment are back at the police department investigating. they are trying to establish a time line of how this all took place, who this man might have been with in the hours of his death. they would like anybody who has information. 8:47. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a massive explosion in an indiana neighbor over the -- neighborhood over the weekend. ♪ amay izing -- amazing
